i'd often think about being killed in a car accident before i got very old because then i wouldn't have to live up to anything - people would talk about my dreams and everything i wanted to do, and they'd make me a martyr and i wouldn't actually have to do anything.i think this attitude is far too common. maybe not explicitly, but we're scared. we're scared of being called on to live holy lives; we're scared to live a life of significance and we're scared of failing. i think that's why people really want to believe that christians will be raptured before the tribulation. we want to get out while we can with as little effort required from us. i know this may be a subject where people will disagree with me, but i really don't believe God would give us the book of revelation ("blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near") and then be okay with us avoiding it or saying it is not applicable to us. We need to be ready for Christ's return and we need to know what God's plan for this world is if we are to live as effective and wholehearted Christians in it.
i guess that sort of turned into a rant. thoughts, anyone?

I used to fear the end of times as well. When I was little I had a preacher that loved to preach on the topic, and not in the best way. It left me with nightmares and much fear in my heart. However, in the last few years I have come to realize what a glorious thing it will be. Just as death is nothing to fear, neither is the tribulation period. I'm so glad that you shared this Marcia, you made such a good point about Christians not wanting to put effort in their faith!
I used to believe that we would not be raptured before tribulation, now I am of a different mindset. However, no matter what! Whether I'm here or not...I'm trusting in the Lord and His provisions!
Great post!
That certainly did turn into a rant, and a great one at that. I love it when people get to ranting about the truth of Jesus our bridgroom God.
Rant On.
OOPS...I deleted my comment. Anyways, I don't think of this as a rant. I think this more as truth being spoken through your blog.
I find it interesting that i have just finished hearing a bunch of speaking on the end times and then i read this post. Probably within a two weekish period. Anyways, as my sister was saying, if God has been working through christains (believers) to bring himself to earth for thousands of years, why would he change the way he has been doing everything right at the end? This is still just a thought, and people who don't know what to think should read revelations and jesus' teachings and know what they believe for themselfs, but i am happy about your comment. I enjoyed reading it. God is good. He judges because he loves us and he doesn't want us to have to live in a sinful world.
Preach it sistah! I just got my response from Tim, and you can read about it on my blog

i hear you with the martyr concept. i find myself daydreaming those thoughts way too often. i suppose a part of it is an actual desire to go to a better place. kind of like the apostle paul's struggle between being here on earth and being with God in heaven. good thoughts marcia.
